Happy Monday. I hope you had a great weekend. I find that people sometimes walk away from their weekends with an idea that they may need to make some changes in their lives. Whether it is food, work or relationships, as the weekend wanes people tend to reassess their lives and think about making positive changes. Good!!! The problem for most of us is that talking about change is the easy part; putting together a plan to make real changes is a lot harder and takes time, preparation and dedication. Today I want to give you some ideas on how to get started.
2) Make one change at a time. Some people want to completely overhaul their lives and sometimes that may work, but I find that when you try to make too many changes at once it is hard to stay focused and succeed. Focus on one change at a time then move onto the next.
3) Set yourself up for success. People who plan to make healthy changes in their lives are more likely to be successful than the ones who do it on a lark. Take the time to create a plan that you can stick to. A plan gives you a blueprint to success.
4) Find accountability. For smaller changes you can ask a friend or family member to help keep you accountable. Larger changes may require finding a support group that you can join and talk about the challenges that making a life change can bring.
5) Be realistic. When you are plotting out the changes you want to make in your life make sure that the goal and the timeline are realistic. If you want to run a marathon and you haven’t run in 10 years, it may be unrealistic to sign up for a marathon that takes place in 30 days. Make sure your timeline and goals are achievable in a realistic time frame.
Starting off a week by committing to making positive changes in your life is a great way to set yourself up for success. By using these 5 tips you are able to set the groundwork for sustainable change.
