Don’t Climb the Hump Day Hill

People tend to think of Wednesday as Hump Day. In fact you probably have seen the commercial with the camel walking through an office reminding people what day it is. I find the thought of Hump Day very interesting because it tends to segment our weeks into sections. I would like to suggest to that it may be better to think out of the box and not treat Wednesday as a day to get over but a day to seize and embrace. Here are some ideas on living out a different type of Wednesday.

1) Take stock of what you have accomplished this week – Sometimes we get so bogged down in getting to the weekend that we don’t take a moment to realize how much we have gotten done so far. As you begin your day make a list of all the work and personal stuff you have taken care of and celebrate.

2) What’s left to do – Wednesday’s are a great time to make a list of the rest of the things you need to finish before the week is done. The list should include work things as well as personal things. This list will give you a great blue print on how to move forward for the rest of the week. I would also prioritize the list in terms of what needs to be completed first and so on.

3)Seek out some Inspiration – Too often by the middle of week we have lost the resolve that we came into Monday with. Don’t wait for inspiration to find you, go out and look for some. For each of us that may look very different but as you begin your Wednesday take some time to find inspiration to help you focus on the day and the rest of the week.

4) Connect – One of the best things you can do during the middle of the week find some time to connect with people that you care about. Lunch with a good friend or dinner with a loved one. I have begun to schedule lunches with friends that I haven’t seen in a long time. It has been a great way to reconnect with a friend and I have found it give me a lot of energy to face the rest of the week.

5) Hit the gym or go for a walk – If you have been reading my blog for any length of time you may have heard about my idea of Mile Six…that place you go when you just need to clear out your head. A great way to do that mid-week is to take some time and hit the gym or go for a nice relaxing walk. The endorphins will do wonders for your body and life doesn’t seem so daunting. Take some time for yourself today.

As you go through your Wednesday don’t get wrapped into the idea that it is a Hump day. Look at Wednesday through new eyes and just another day to be the best you possible. Take some time to live in the moment of the day, be present and move forward. You can either climb the hump or you can take control and walk a straight line into the day.
